you too can hear the voices music in my head

Luisterpaal is a bit like myspace but infinitely more useful. I’ve been on the verge of blogging up here that you should all go and listen to the music on DC Recordings (label), Padded Cell (pretty good artist on that label) and Emperor Machine (very good artist on that label) for some time. But if you go to LuisterPaal you can just listen to the DC Recordings compilation Death Before Distemper (which I’m listenning to a lot), the new Emperor Machine album (which I’ve been waiting for since I moved to London two years ago and is sounding pretty good thus far but I’ve only reached track two), and also the new Rapture album – which is worth it for Whoo Alright Yeah Ah-Huh alone.

But hurry, because luisterpaal will update with newer musical delights all too soon.
I reccomend most strongly that you check out Unknown Zone by Padded Cell on Death Before Distemper. If you imagine semi radiophonic workshop inspired electro which quite likes being a little less harshly structured and a bit more organic you get the idea.

Also, it has to be admitted that DC Recordings artwork is pretty even with numbers plastered all over the covers.

emusic finally launches beta-ly in the UK!

Move over itunes, and goodbye to all that pointless DRM. Cos eMusic
have now launched a UK variant which finally means they can sell me a load of albums I was unable to get before due to licensing restrictions.

Not sure how official this all is, but there is a logo: emusic uk beta.

So now my 90 tracks per month (which last time I worked it out cost me less than 50p a track easily) can be used to get all manner of less random indie. I can get almost all of ninja tune now, for example. Sadly no Warp yet, and that’s unlikely for a while given the (wonders) of bleep.

Strangely there’s no big announcement anywhere so I’m not sure if they’re just showing this to existing subscribers but it will doubtlessly roll out in time. The downside is that they do have a little note at the bottom of the site saying “all prices include 17.5% VAT”, so I guess I’ll be paying tax on my music again shortly, but maybe I wanted to do that all along. Though the idea of a VAT exemption or reduction for digital media on environmental grounds is bouncing around my head right now.

Yes, Top Of The Pops is no more. It’s kinda sad but no-one’s watched it for about a decade anyway.
Sadly missing from last night’s main tribute (I didn’t watch the two clip shows but by all accounts there were pretty dire) was the appearance of nutty’s favourites Bis before they’d even been signed. Thanks to the internet and Bis themselves uploading it you can see it below.

How long until the BBC start just plonking stuff on YouTube or something similar officially?
After all, it’s where all the cool kids are.
